Sarah Whitfield

Vice President, Portfolio Management

Sarah Whitfield joined Sinclair & Voss in 2014 and has become an integral part of the firm’s investment team over the past 12 years. As Vice President of Portfolio Management, she is responsible for the day-to-day construction, monitoring, and rebalancing of client portfolios, ensuring that the firm’s strategic investment views are expressed precisely and efficiently across every account.

Before joining Sinclair & Voss, Sarah spent four years as a quantitative analyst at a fixed-income asset manager in New York, where she built risk models and attribution frameworks for institutional bond portfolios. That experience gave her a deep appreciation for the mechanics of portfolio construction—how small decisions about position sizing, rebalancing frequency, and tax management compound into meaningful differences in long-term outcomes.

Sarah earned her Master of Science in Financial Engineering from Columbia University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2016. Her quantitative training gives her a natural affinity for data-driven decision-making, but she is careful to distinguish between analytical rigor and false precision—a distinction she considers essential in a field where uncertainty is the defining feature.

Her work at Sinclair & Voss spans several critical functions. She manages the firm’s rebalancing process, applying a systematic framework that balances the benefits of maintaining target allocations against the tax and transaction costs of trading. She leads the firm’s tax-loss harvesting program, identifying opportunities to realize losses strategically without compromising portfolio integrity. And she oversees portfolio transitions for new clients, carefully managing the process of moving from a legacy portfolio to Sinclair & Voss’s recommended allocation in a tax-aware manner.

Sarah is also the firm’s primary resource on fixed income markets and strategy. She monitors credit conditions, yield curve dynamics, and duration positioning, and she works closely with William on the firm’s overall asset allocation views. In a period when bond markets have presented unusual challenges, her analytical depth has been particularly valuable.

Outside of work, Sarah is a mentor in the Women in Finance program at UNC Charlotte and an avid runner who has completed several marathons. She lives in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood of Charlotte.
